Senior executives of Tata Consultancy Services met with the Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar and the Tamil Nadu Labour Secretary Mohan Pyare to clarify that all TCS offices in Chennai were closed on April 24, on the day of parliamentary elections, according to a statement from the company.
This followed news reports based on a press conference by the Chief Electoral Officer that complaints had been received about some IT companies, including TCS, working on polling day and that action will be taken against them.
TCS, in a statement, said: “this is to bring to your notice that all TCS offices in Chennai remained closed on Thursday, April 24, on account of the Lok Sabha Elections and all employees were given a holiday to exercise their democratic franchise. We can also confirm that no offices were working in TCS Siruseri on polling day, contrary to media reports.”
When contacted by Business Line , Praveen Kumar acknowledged that TCS officials had met him. However, the information had been collected by the authorities based on specific complaints. The Election Department’s Returning Officers of the districts concerned will look into the company’s representation and if needed take action, he said.
