Tata Consultancy Services, India’s largest software exporter, will recruit an additional 10,000 personnel over and above its target of 50,000 staff in this financial year.
“This would be primarily the trainees that we have given offers to. Additionally, there will be the lateral hirings. We will add another 10,000 in Q4,” TCS Executive Vice-President and Global Head for Human Resources Ajoy Mukherjee told Business Line in an interview.
The Tata group company had already hired 49,600 personnel as of third quarter ended December 31, almost achieving its target of 50,000 personnel for the financial year.
“The hiring is in line with the business demand, the way the business has been growing, and most of our geographies have been performing,” Mukherjee said, adding that TCS had posted strong growth during the year.
The joining ratio (ratio of personnel joining the company after accepting job offers) and number of trainees who joined the company this year were also higher. “These are the factors that resulted in hiring more than what we had initially planned for,” he added.
ATTRITION
TCS’ overall attrition rate, or employees leaving the firm, including that for outsourcing business, stood at 11.2 per cent. The attrition for IT services fell to 9.8 per cent, which was the “best in the industry and a significant achievement”.
“The overall environment has also helped in retaining talent, I should not deny that. But at the same time we should not move away from taking credit for the good work,” Mukherjee said.
TCS is yet to finalise recruitment plans for next year, which would be done by early March. The company would stick to its earlier plans of recruiting 25,000 trainees for next year, of which 24,000 offers were already provided.
On the visa issues, Mukherjee said the situation still has not improved. “It is still where it was.”
