Tecno Mobile, the premium smartphone brand from Hong Kong-based Transsion Holdings, is betting on features such as Artificial Intelligence-powered camera to woo students and first time buyers.

The AI beauty mode in the flagship CAMON iCLICK2 phone optimised for Indian skin tone was tested on one lakh Indian faces. Nearly 300 facial points of users were captured and a database created to match beautification mode, said Arijeet Talapatra, CEO, Transsion India.

CAMON iCLICK2 sports 13MP+5MP dual rear AI-powered cameras and a 24MP AI selfie shooter. Priced at ₹13,499, the smartphone with 19:9 super full view notched display, is the first flagship smartphone launched by the company. The dual-SIM phone comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ screen, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, expandable up to 128 GB.

“We are betting on the three pillars of professional photography, premium design and superior performance,” Talapatra said.

In September, Tecno Mobile launched three AI-centric smartphones — CAMON iAIR2+, i2 and i2X. Quoting IDC data, Talapatra said Transsion secured the fifth spot (in terms of shipments) among top mobile brands in India within two years of operation. It was ranked below Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo and Oppo.

Turnover

Transsion achieved a global turnover of ₹21,000 crore in 2017 with India contributing about 15 per cent; it is the second most important market for the company. Early this year, the company started its manufacturing facility in Noida — the fourth globally with two in China and one in Ethiopia.
