Citing the comprehensive ‘Quality of Services’ norms that it has set for cable operators, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued an advisory to multi-system operators (MSOs) to follow the regulatory framework and complaint redress regulations, among others.
TRAI’s advisory comes at a time when the country is in the process of implementing Digital Addressable Cable TV Systems in the country.
“The Quality of Service Regulation for DAS prescribes that every MSO or its linked LCO, …..shall, within 24 hours of the receipt of the complaint pertaining to malfunctioning of a set top box from a subscriber, ensure that the set top box is repaired or replaced without any extra charge…, if it is covered within the warranty or it has been acquired by the subscriber on hire purchase scheme or on rental basis,” TRAI said.
The regulator also asked MSOs to give spare set-top-boxes to linked local cable operators (LCOs) for speedy restoration of services.
