Uber has launched a low cost service in India called UberGO.
With the launch of the service, Uber is taking on established taxi players and also newcomers such as Ola and TaxiForSure.
In a blog post, Uber said the chauffeur-driven hatchbacks like Tata Indica Vista, Etios Liva, Maruti Ritz and Maruti Swift, would cost lower than an auto-rickshaw.
Uber said the services will be available in all the 10 cities - Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, New Delhi, Pune and Mumbai - it has services in the country.
Only recently, Ola Cabs had launched booking of autos in Bangalore through its app.
Uber had recently tied up with PayTM, a wallet service to get around Reserve Bank of India regulations on credit card use. Users can add their PayTM account to the Uber payment system and can use the prepaid balance to pay Uber.
Uber now has three types of services - UberGO, UberX and UberBLACK. Before the launch of UberGO, UberX was the low-cost service from Uber. UberBLACK is the premium service.
