Telecom services provider Uninor on Wednesday unveiled its new identity rebranding itself as Telenor.

Last year, Norway-based Telenor Group increased its stake in the Indian entity to 100 per cent. This month it changed its name to Telenor (India) Communications from Telewings Communications Services.

Morten Karlsen Sorby, Head of Region Asia, Telenor Group said, “The brand change is a reflection of our commitment to India and our mass market consumers as we promise to offer superior value in meeting their evolving needs through affordable, easy-to-use and fair means.”

The company said it will be investing significantly in “transforming its network and retail presence across circles.” It is also planning to offer high-speed Internet services for mass-market consumers in the future with the modernisation of its entire network.

Added Vivek Sood, CEO, Telenor India, “We will continue to offer the most affordable services and deliver innovative solutions such as call drop reimbursements and customised product offers.”

Keeping its affordability plank intact, the company will be launching a 360-degree brand campaign with the tag line, ‘Ab life full paisa vasool.’

It also said that the company will be spending around ₹100 crore on repositioning itself over the next few months. The Indian subsidiary has also changed its tag to Ab life full paisa vasool from Sabse Sasta and said the rechristened brand will be an extended commitment to deliver through fair and easy services.

Amidst issues of call drops in the recent past, the company is also the only one which had announced to give compensation to its subscribers on call drops.

“Telenor Group pursues a strategy of being the best at understanding and meeting customer needs. To our 3,500 employees in India, today marks an important name change, but let there be no doubt that they have been part of the Telenor family from day one,” Morten Karlsen Sorby, Head of Asia Region, Telenor Group, said here.

The Group, last year, had increased its stake in the Indian entity to 100 per cent and earlier this month had changed the name of the company from Telewings Communications Services to Telenor (India) Communications.

The company started its operations in India in 2009 with a permit in seven circles. However, as of now it has presence in six circles including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (East and West) and soon it may start in Assam once the government comes out with proper guidelines.

“The government is yet to come out with the detailed spectrum sharing and trading guidelines. Once they come out then we will be in position to clearly evaluate options before us. As of now it will be premature to talk about it,” Vivek Sood, Chief Executive Officer, Telenor India, said.

Telenor is available across six circles — AP & Telangana, Bihar & Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra & Goa, UP (East) and UP (West). It plans to launch operations in the Assam circle by next year.
