Norwegian telecom services operator Uninor has announced a new initiative in India under which autorickshaw drivers in the Maharashtra region will inform and provide Uninor services to their customers.

The project has kicked off with 10 autorickshaws from the Vishrantwadi Rickshaw Union as a pilot servicing areas such as the airport, railway station and key bus depots in the city. Following its success, Uninor now plans to launch 1,000 auto recharge vehicles in the next six months across Maharashtra.

The autorickshaw drivers are trained on the products, method of recharge and form-filling process. Additionally, autorickshaw drivers are updated about Uninor services and recharge benefits in order to provide support to Uninor’s existing and potential customers.

Ritesh Kumar Singh, Circle Business Head, Maharashtra & Goa said, “We have received an overwhelming response from autorickshaw drivers, with an increasing number showing a keen interest in joining the programme. In the next six months, we will add a thousand autorickshaws.”

Uninor has added 2.4 lakh customers in Maharashtra and Goa region during February, he said.
