Telecom operator Telewings Communications Services (Uninor) on Wednesday signed a contract with equipment provider Huawei India to modernise its entire telecom network across six circles.
As per this contract, all 24,000 base stations of Uninor will be swapped with new equipment that are modern, efficient and future ready, with the company investing ₹1,200 crore in this deal.
The deal also involves Huawei becoming the managed services partner of Uninor. This is the largest deal with the Telenor Group, the company said, adding that the initiative will help Uninor offer advanced Internet services and 4G technology for its customers.
The network modernisation will enhance Uninor’s network capacity to offer superior experience both on voice and Internet, Vivek Sood, Chief Executive Officer, Uninor, said here.
“Being a mass market player, we continue to focus on building our capabilities to offer better Internet and voice services at ‘sabse sasta’ prices,” Sood said.
The project will be spread over a period of three years and aims to modernise Uninor’s existing network with Huawei’s new architecture, platforms and equipment, he added.
“This will provide superior voice and data quality, lower power consumption and better spectral efficiency. With our cutting-edge next-generation network and customer-centric model, we will enable Uninor to a smooth transition towards future technologies,” Baker Zhou, Vice President, Huawei, said.
Part of Norway-based Telenor Group, Uninor provides its mobile services in six circles, including Uttar Pradesh (West and East), Bihar (including Jharkhand), Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
It will soon launch its services in Assam.
