Epicor Software Corporation, a $800-million US-based software company, has entered the Indian market with its enterprise resource planning (ERP) suite of products. It will compete with names such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft and home- grown Ramco Systems to tap the Indian ERP market [of over $300 million], according to Mr Roy Shooter, Senior Vice-President, EMEA Operations, Epicor.

“We are a late entrant compared with our competitors but will catch up with them in the next two to three years,” he told Business Line . Epicor has appointed nine partners to sell its products. Its first Indian customer was PC Sons, Coimbatore. With nearly 33,000 customers globally, Epicor has nearly 400 partners and 4,000 employees, he said.

Quoting Garter Magic Quadrant he said while Microsoft Dynamics AX and SAP Business All-in-One were ranked as leaders in the ERP product space, Epicor 9 was ranked as a ‘visionary.'

Mr Subu D. Subramanian, Managing Director and CEO, Defiance Technologies, a Hinduja Group company, said the company has set up a centre of excellence for Epicor in Chennai. It will adapt the Epicor 9 suite to India-specific functionalities for Indian customers, he said.

The centre with around 30 employees, inaugurated on Wednesday, will support Epicor's product development initiatives and also service Epicor's global customers. In the next two-three years the investment in the centre will be $10-15 million, he said.
