Videocon Telecom has slashed outgoing call rates by 50 per cent for its customers roaming across the country.

The operator has slashed the tariffs under a special tariff voucher of Rs 45. The company would now levy 50 paise per minute for outgoing local calls while on roaming and 75 paise per minute for STD calls, Videocon Telecom said in a statement.

Under the tariff, the company is also offering 20 minutes of free incoming calls per day instead of 75 paise per minute for two weeks, it said.

“Conventionally, benefit of tariff cutters or special tariff vouchers is only given in the home network, and no operator has extended this kind of benefit with 50 per cent straight drop to their customers while roaming,” said Arvind Bali, Chief Executive Officer and Director at Videocon Telecom.

“We obviously will be bearing a cost for offering such proposition, but I feel this is an investment in the brand for long term returns,” he added.
