Vodafone India, the country’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, has launched a music service intended for smartphone and feature phone users. It is also looking to launch a string of value added services in the next few quarters. “It allows streaming as well as downloading, it enables sharing as well. At this stage it is subscription and advertising free,” Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer of Vodafone India said.

The new value added service is available on wireless access protocol (WAP) on all phones and via an application on Android. The company would introduce applications for operating systems “shortly”.

Vodafone India has tied up with more than 20 music labels for the service such as Saregama and T-series. The music service platform was developed by Hungama Digital Media Entertainment.
