Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corporation announced that it has successfully built and deployed a valued added service platform for Vodafone Essar in India.
With the completion of the platform, Vodafone customers can now avail themselves of the Vodafone Newswrap, a Mobile Newspaper service offering the latest news and happenings from around the world, right on their mobile phones. As a part of the project, ZTE India has created VAS platforms, under a revenue-sharing model for the first time.
According to Mr Cui Liangjun, CEO, ZTE India, “We are extremely happy that our first long-term partnership on a revenue-sharing model in India is with Vodafone Essar and look forward to further strengthening this association. The success of the mobile newspaper project serves to highlight ZTE's focus on addressing the end-to-end requirements of Indian telecom operators and emerge as their preferred partner. We will continue to expand our VAS offerings and will aggressively focus on attaining leadership in the segment by offering innovative VAS solutions.”
With the rapid increase in the number of mobile phone subscribers in India, mobile newspapers are fast emerging as a preferred mode for receiving news and updates. While news updates have been available on mobiles, this is the first time that a mobile newspaper service via MMS has been deployed commercially by any operator in the country.
