In a span of seven months, another top executive has quit India’s third largest software exporter, Wipro.

Suchira Iyer, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of the IT business and who was reporting to T. K. Kurien, CEO of the IT Business – Wipro, has resigned from the company. This comes close on the heels of the resignation of Manish Dugar who was in charge of Wipro’s global BPO operations.

Iyer, who was heading the marketing function, quit the company to pursue interests outside the organisation, according to a company statement. She took over this role in April 2012, replacing Rajan Kohli, who heads the banking business.

Interim head

Shaji Farooq, who joined the company from Infosys in September as the Senior Vice-President, Advanced Technologies, Global Alliances & GTM Transformation, will continue to head the marketing function at Wipro in the interim, according to a statement from Wipro. Asked about the successor, a company spokesperson said her successor will be announced in due course.

Her exit has come as a surprise and some industry watchers expect more churn in some of the Indian tech companies.

“A CMO is responsible for facilitating growth in sales and marketing and as the industry is undergoing a paradigm shift in technology towards cloud computing, Indian IT companies are struggling to articulate its impact on the business across all the concerned stakeholders – from customers to employers,” said the technology and services head of a top management search firm who did not wish to be quoted.
