Wipro has expanded its infrastructure capabilities to create a global utility computing platform for its enterprise-class clients.
Called Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Wipro will provide technology infrastructure such as servers, storage, data recovery, security and other services from its hosted data centre.
The infrastructure portfolio will be marketed as Wipro iStructure services and will be the foundation for offering a set of infrastructure, application and business process outsourcing solutions in an ‘ as-a-service' model.
This model enables a company to avail itself of expensive infrastructure or solutions on a need basis.
Service portfolio
These offerings were introduced last year and Wipro is expanding the service portfolio, deploying the platform throughout the US, Europe and India, and marketing the solutions as discrete service offerings under the Wipro iStructure service line.
“Clients have adopted the service and today, 15 per cent of the servers hosted in Wipro's data centres are delivered in an as-a-service model,” according to Mr Michael Wilczak, SVP – Strategy, Datacentre Services, Wipro Technologies.
According to Forrester Research, the global market for cloud computing will grow from $40.7 billion in 2011 to more than $241 billion in 2020.
