Wipro launches testing service portal to tap small businesses

Wipro Technologies on Tuesday launched a portal for Testing as a Service (TaaS).

Explaining the rationale, Mr Sanjay Seth, General Manager-Global Marketing and Strategic Alliances, Testing Services, told Business Line that the portal would specifically address start-ups and small and medium businesses.

Mr Gangadharaiah, Sr. Vice President, Testing Services at Wipro, said that this could also bring many companies into the Wipro fold.

Five services now

“A small company that starts using our testing services may opt for other Wipro services as it grows,” he pointed out.

Mr Seth said that right now around five services are available at the portal ( taas.wipro.com ). “We plan to offer over 20 services and the remaining ones will be launched by the end of the month,” he added.

The project has been in the works for over ten months now. “We started work on this in April 2010 and we are launching it now.” While players such as Patni, HP, Cloud9 and uTest offer TaaS, Mr Seth said, “Nobody has thought about sourcing of services the way we are doing now.” He said that many competitors stick to one area, say, cloud testing. “But it is only one of the things we are offering,” he added.

Better info sharing

According to Mr Gangadharaiah, the portal ensures better sharing of information both with clients and Wipro's own employees associated with testing. “Instead of coaching 700 new people, it is easier to put the information on the portal.”

During 2009-10, 12 per cent of Wipro's IT services revenues came from testing services. However, Mr Seth refused to offer any predictions on how much he expected the new portal to contribute to Wipro's testing revenues.
