In a widely expected move, India's third largest IT outsourcer, Wipro Ltd on Monday said it has appointed Abid Ali Neemuchwala as CEO & member of the board. He replaces TK Kurien who has been appointed executive vice chairman.
Both these appintments are effective from February 1. Kurien will remain a member of the board until March 31, 2017.
"As executive vice chairman, TK will enable Abid by leveraging his deep relationships with customers and chart out a new technology roadmap for Wipro," Premji said in a statement.
He said, "in his nine months as the group president and chief operating officer, Abid has effortlessely assimilated into the culture and ethos of Wipro. The new structure will ensure smooth succession and will build on the solid foundation we have developed to drive suprerior growth and profitability."
"I am convinced that we are well positioned to seize new opportunities in today's marketplace. I look forward to working with the thousands of Wiproites to take out company to greater heights," Neemuchwala whose last job was with TCS said.
