With the launch of the Moto X Play edition, Motorola has got back into the game. The Zenfone2 and OnePlus2 had better specs and were priced lower and Moto X desperately needed a boost.
Though not a flagship, the Play edition has excellent specifications -- a 21 MP back camera, a 5 MP front camera and a massive 3630 mAh battery.
The Moto X 2nd Gen had a 13 MP back camera, 2 MP front and a 2300 mAh battery. It may be wrong to call the Play a successor of the 2nd Gen, as Motorola has come out with more than one variant now – the Play and Style editions.
Both the 16 GB and 32 GB versions of the Moto X Play are priced below ₹20,000. Though priced aggressively, the Play Edition sports only a mid-range Snapdragon 615 octacore processor and is unlikely to give a run for the money to the flagships such as Zenfone2 and OnePlus2.
But the Moto E Play Edition has the advantages of being water resistant and having a better battery life.
The best part is that like the other Moto phones, it is Pure Android with hardly any bloatware — with the added advantage of getting firmware updates as and when Google releases them. If you want a Moto X flagship, you have to wait for some more time – may be a month or two – for the Moto X Style.
