The local chapter of the Computer Society of India (CSI) and Flytxt, Big Data solutions provider to telecom companies, will jointly host a one-day workshop on Big Data here on Saturday.
Titled ‘Big decisions from Big Data,’ it will aim to help participants gain practical knowledge of Big Data Analytics using frameworks such as Hadoop and MapReduce, according to Vishnukumar S, Secretary of the Trivandrum chapter of CSI.
Hadoop is an open-source software framework for storage and large-scale processing of data-sets on clusters of commodity hardware.
MapReduce helps a programmer easily write applications which process vast amount of data.
Explaining the context, Vishnukumar said that in the era of volatile markets and intensifying competition, it is important for all enterprises to use data to derive actionable insights.
However, the volume, velocity and variety of data make it difficult for enterprises to decipher the same, using traditional data processing applications.
These systems pose a lot of challenges in data analyses, which include analysis, capture, curation, search, sharing, storage, transfer, visualisation, and protection of user privacy.
Big Data Analytics helps enterprises to meet these challenges through collecting, correlating and analysing data and derive insights for supporting important business decisions, Vishnukumar added.
