Yahoo! plans to slash nearly 2,000 jobs globally. This will happen in a phased manner. The company said that this is part of the “next major step to reshape the company for the future’’.

Today, the company will begin the process of informing employees about these changes.

In India, Yahoo! has a large presence in Bangalore. However, its spokersperson said that the company does not give local implications on such issues.

“Today’s actions are an important next step towards a bold, new Yahoo! — smaller, nimbler, more profitable and better equipped to innovate as fast as our customers and our industry require,’’ Mr Scott Thompson, CEO of Yahoo!, said in a statement.
