Mumbai-based YOU Broadband is piloting what it touts to be the most cost-effective 100 Mbps broadband connection in the country for households.
The Internet service provider plans to unveil ‘What the Fun 100’, its latest broadband plan with a monthly usage quota of 200 GB for ₹1,699 a month.
“By far, this is the most cost-effective broadband plan in the country for speeds of 100 Mbps. Already 250-odd customers from cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Baroda, Bengaluru and Chennai have signed up for the pilot project,” EVS Chakravarthy, Chief Executive Officer of YOU Broadband, told
The company said a formal launch is expected later this week. A 100 Mbps connection ensures that full length high definition movies are downloaded in few minutes. It also makes live streaming of ultra high definition movies a reality.
BSNL and Tata DoCoMo are the other operators that provide 100 Mbps broadband with 200 GB free usage. While TataDoCoMo’s plan is priced at ₹3,999 a month, BSNL charges ₹1,86,989 but with validity of ₹360 days.
“Most of the service providers in India are going after the enterprise segment and small and medium businesses. Any monthly plan priced at over ₹2,000 does not become viable for households,” said Chakravarthy.
Set up in 2001 by British Gas as Iqara Broadband, the privately held YOU Broadband has financial backing of funds advised by TRG Management.
