Registering a significant increase, gold ETFs worth Rs 691 crore were traded on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya today.
Trading in gold Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) jumped nearly 14 per cent to Rs 691 crore on the leading bourse. Last year on Akshya Tritiya, the value stood at Rs 608 crore.
“The number of units of gold ETF traded today were 26,98,610, an increase of more than 14 per cent from the number of units traded last year on Akshaya Tritiya, when 23,60,000 units were traded,” the NSE said in a statement.
The NSE had extended trading time for gold ETFs till 7 pm.
“The turnover of Gold ETFs on the NSE platform touched Rs 926 crore in April 2013 which was 3.2 times the turnover in March 2013 at Rs 284 crore,” it said.
In the last few years, trading volumes in gold ETFs have witnessed consistent growth especially with good participation from retail investors on auspicious days.
Akshaya Tritiya is considered an auspicious occasion to buy gold.
