SBI, HDFC Bank, BoB, Axis Bank top lenders for India Inc

State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda and Axis Bank could be accounting for nearly 60 per cent fresh lending towards India Inc. They could be handing out loans to large corporates at rates extremely competitive, that the rest of the industry finds untenable to match.

According to sources, the price war which began in the corporate lending space back in September 2021 is barely showing signs of abatement.

“With the hike in repo rates since May 2022, lending rate to large corporates have moved in tandem, and to some extent we don’t have the crazy pricing war we saw till September 2022. But even at the current rates, there is stiff competition in the market, concentrated among a few players,” said a senior banker.

ITC continues slide on demerger of hotel biz

Shares of Indian conglomerate ITC shares fell as much as 3.3% on Tuesday, extending a slide from the previous session, as investors baulked at the company’s plans to retain a 40% stake in its hotels business after spinning it off.

ITC said on Monday it would spin off the hotel business, separating it from its cigarettes and food units, but retain a 40% stake in the new entity, with ITC shareholders holding the rest.

The company’s stock ended nearly 4% lower on Monday.

“We believe some investors may have preferred a vertical split (100% direct),” Jefferies analysts said in a note, pointing to the cash-guzzling nature of the hotel business.

The business has contributed less than 5% to ITC’s revenue and earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) over the last decade but for over 20% of capital expenditure, Jefferies said.

“We seek clarity on the rationale behind retaining a 40% stake, the royalty structure, any tax implications and the key criteria for gaining a strategic investor/partner in the business,” said Emkay Research.

Nomura analysts said the “not a clean de-merger” could restrict value unlocking. - Reuters

Choice International views on TVS Motor: Recommends ADD

FY24 will be highly uncertain for E-2W portfolio as partial reduction in FAME subsidy and subsequently expectation of nil subsidy on E-2W will moderate the EV transition. Further, delay and uneven rain in various parts of the country is building a case for weak rural sentiment. However, TVS Motors has positioned itself in better place to overcome these challenges led by better product offering, customer reach and aggressive network expansion for E-2W. We expect TVS to partially offset this headwind by increase in export volume. We roll forward our valuation to FY25E EPS to arrive at a TP of Rs.1,353 (valuing at 28x FY25 EPS + Rs.31 for TVS credit) and assign ADD rating on the stock.

We roll forward our valuation to FY25E EPS. As stock has given decent run-up in past month and factoring most of the positive and leaves limited upside. We value the stock based on 18x of FY25E EPS to arrived at target price of Rs.204 (18x FY25E EPS) and recommend ADD.
