Sensex gained 362 points on Tuesday as concern over macro economic situation eased and crude oil prices dropped in the international markets.
The benchmark index opened on the positive note at 25,704 against the previous close of 25,519. It made a high of 25,905 and low of 25,646 before closing at 25,881.
Turnover on BSE was up Rs 2,340 crore against Rs 1,986 crore registered on Monday.
In NSE, Nifty was up 101 points at 7,727.
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation gained three per cent to Rs 406 on BSE as the company announced on Monday after market hours that its wholly owned subsidiary, ONGC Videsh, has signed Production Sharing Contracts for two on land exploration in Myanmar.
Tata Power Company gained 0.28 per cent to Rs 91. The company declared Q1 result at the fag end of the day's trading session. The stock hit a high of Rs 93.45 and low of Rs 89.55.
On a consolidated basis, Tata Power reported net loss of Rs 111 crore in the June quarter, lower than net loss of Rs 115 crore logged in the same period last year. Total income fell four per cent to Rs 8715 crore.
Major gainers include Eicher Motors (8%), RamoCem (8%), Gail India (6%), Tata Motors (6%), Coromandel Intl (6%), HDFC (5%), Sobha Dev (5%), Glenmark Pharma (5%) and IFCI (5%).
Prominent losers include Bhushan Steel (-10), Neyveli Lignite (-7%), Indian Hotels (-7%), Mangalore Ref (-5%), Motherson Sumi (-5%), Wockhardt (-4%) and Jain Irrigation (-4%).
