The sale of turmeric in Erode has come down to fifty per cent on Thursday for lack of demand.
“There was no fresh demand from North India. Traders purchased 1,450 bags of turmeric as against the arrival of 3,000 bags,” said the traders.
The price of hybrid finger turmeric fell by ₹1,200 a quintal and the root variety by ₹150. Prices of other local turmeric dropped by ₹200.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at Rs 4019 to Rs 6130 a quintal, root variety Rs 3896 to Rs 6019 a quintal.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,700-₹6,689 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,589-6,300. Of the arrival of 759 bags, 98 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,569-6,589 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,316-6,341. Of the 986 bags offered for sale, 950 bags were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,649-6,209 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,319-6,189. All the 823 bags of turmeric received for sale were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative marketing Society finger turmeric fetched ₹5,488-6,460 a quintal, root variety at ₹4,990-6,219. All the 89 bags of turmeric kept for sale were sold.
