Spot turmeric rose on Friday, as rain in Andhra Pradesh forced North Indian merchants to place orders here.
“Exporters have received some fresh orders from North India and the futures are stable too. So they quoted higher for the yellow spice. Some stockists bought more than 400 bags,” said a trader.
Prices of finger and the root varieties were up. Of the 2,510 bags that arrived, 1,680 were sold.
Both in the Regulated Marketing Committee and the Gobichettipalayam Cooperative Marketing society, prices increased by Rs 300 a quintal due to arrival of quality produce.
The hybrid variety fetched Rs 6,226 a quintal on high demand. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,007-5,509 a quintal, the root variety at Rs 3,811-4,899.
Salem hybrid crop: The finger variety was sold at Rs 5,889-6,226, the root variety at Rs 5,109-5,519. Of the 1,089 bags that arrived, 350 were sold.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,399-5,729, the root variety at Rs 4,110-4,889. Of the 878 bags that arrived, 850 found takers.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,258-5,889, the root variety at Rs 3,800-4,999. All the 475 bags that arrived were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,137-5,989, the root variety at Rs 3,337-4,910. All the 92 bags put up for sale were sold.
