Spot turmeric prices decreased by Rs 300 a quintal with most exporters, bulk buyers keeping off. “Excepting one or two exporters, other bulk buyers did not purchase turmeric as they have not yet received upcountry orders”, said Rajamanickkam, Secretary, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
R.K.V. Ravishankar, President of the Association, said that arrival at all the four markets are increasing and sales are encouraging.
Still due to low price, some traders are buying turmeric from other States. In the third week of September, the local traders will get some orders from North India, he added.
On Tuesday, more than 3,500 bags of turmeric arrived for sale.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,299-6,247 a quintal, the root variety Rs 4,733-5,853 .
Ofthe arrival of 1,085 bags of turmeric, 966 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,339-6,399, the root variety Rs 4,889-6,069 .
Of the arrival of 876 bags of turmeric, 861 were sold.
