After one year, the cotton started arriving for sale to the Regulated Market Committee, Bhoodapady from last week. On Friday, the arrival of cotton increased to 7,000 bags. The sale prices are low when compared to last year price. The price of the fibre has come down drastically despite poor production in and around Erode. Last year Bt cotton was sold for ₹6,300 a quintal and at the closure of the season it was sold at ₹6,400. This year when the auction was started the Bt cotton fetched only ₹5,300. At the Bhoodapady Regulated Market Committee, the Bt cotton was sold at ₹4,800-5,250 a quintal on Friday, which is higher than last week price and also all the 7,000 bags placed for auction were sold. The sale in the Anthiyur Regulated Market Committee saw 2,500 quintals.
