Lack of demand in a falling market continue to depress turmeric prices in Erode markets. “The price bold and finger variety turmeric decreased, as exporters and traders are still expecting upcountry orders.
On Friday, arrivals increased to 4,256 bags. As a result, prices decreased.
Turmeric futures also decreased by three per cent, said the President of the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, R.K.V. Ravishankar.
He said that prices of turmeric are selling at a lower price in other markets such as Nizamabad and Sangli.
Due to rain and bearish trend, buyers from North India were quoting low price for the commodity.
Even the price of best quality turmeric decreased to Rs 6,500 a quintal.
On the other hand, farmers are willingly selling turmeric at prevailing lower prices.
They are expecting prices to increase by the end of the month only.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety was sold at Rs 3,619-6,564 a quintal, the root variety Rs 3,609-5,805.
Salem Hybrid Crop
The finger variety was sold at Rs 6,134-6,716, the root variety Rs 5,960-6,030. Of the 1,471 bags that arrived, 150 found takers.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,369-6,829, the root variety at Rs 5,139-6,115. Of 1,467 bags 1,135 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,500-6,569; the root variety at Rs 5,469-6,100; 902 bags were sold against 906 on offer.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,369-6,789, the root variety Rs 5,169-6,006. All the 412 bags of turmeric got sold.
