Prices of spot hybrid turmeric fell on Wednesday on the back of drop in the quality of arrivals. “Though the demand for hybrid turmeric was high, prices fell by ₹960 a quintal for the finger variety and by ₹210 a quintal for the root variety,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. He said arrivals increased to 5,200 bags and over 3,500 were sold. Local traders have received a good number of local orders from masala firms. The trend in the futures market was positive in the morning, but it did not reflect in the local auction. Similarly, turmeric prices in other centres such as Warangal and Nizamabad were also around the same leave, forcing traders to buying turmeric from Erode since its quality is better. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹3,188-6,666 a quintal, the root variety ₹3,156-5,799.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹5,609-7,203, the root variety at ₹5,499-6,099. Of the 1,328 bags that arrived, 439 were sold.
