Kerala oil crushers fail to procure copra in Erode

Decreasing trend persists in copra prices because of heavy output. “The price in the Avalpoondurai Regulated Marketing Committee has decreased due to heavy production of copra in Erode and other districts. Further, no Kerala oil crushers procured copra”, said Dhandapani, Superintendent of the Committee. Already they have adequate stocks for crushing. But since coconut oil prices have not increased, oil crushers procured limited stocks quoting low prices. On Monday, copra sold at Rs 3,650-3,920 a quintal for the first grade; second grade Rs 3,335-3,645, Rs 500 less than last week’s price. All the 150 tonnes (3,000 bags) were sold. Similarly in Perundurai Agriculturists Cooperative Production Society, the commodity sold at Rs 3,675-3,910 for grade I variety; Rs 3,055-3,615 for Grade II; 160 tonnes were sold. R.M. Palanisamy, a leading coconut oil trader, said that the price of coconut oil decreased sharply to Rs 820-825 for 15 kg loose pack.
