Spot prices of the hybrid turmeric increased on Friday at Erode markets due to quality arrivals. “Suddenly quality hybrid finger turmeric arrived for sale and some traders who are having orders from North India purchased all the 200 bags by quoting higher price. The price was up ₹1,038 a quintal. But the hybrid root variety rose by only ₹100 as medium quality turmeric was placed for sale. Other varieties are up ₹100,” said traders.
Only 2,100 bags arrived for sale and fifty per cent stocks were sold. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,100-6,359 a quintal and the root variety ₹3,719-6,289.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety quoted ₹5,699-8,007; the root variety ₹5,419-6,505.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,569-6,449; the root variety ₹5,409-6,255. Of the 602 bags put up for sale, 450 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,560-6,504 and the root variety ₹5,326-6,290. All the 659 bags were traded.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹5,659-6,442; the root variety ₹5,700-6,269. All the 257 bags found takers.
