Silver prices edged higher by 0.32 per cent to Rs 45,895 per kg at the futures trading today as participants built up fresh positions amid a firm global trend.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in far-month December gained Rs 147 or 0.32 per cent to Rs 45,895 per kg in a business turnover of 11 lots.
Likewise, the white metal for delivery in September traded higher by Rs 136 or 0.31 per cent to Rs 45,070 per kg in 478 lots.
Market analysts said fresh positions built up by speculators, buoyed by a firm global trend, influenced silver prices at the futures trade.
Meanwhile, the white metal rose 0.1 per cent to $20.89 an ounce in Singapore.
