A TGLIA special auction is slated for April 16 on the Tea Board’s e-auction portal.
According to Mr C. Shreedharan, Convener, The Golden Leaf India Award: Southern Tea Competition (TGLIA: STC), 50,265 kg would be on offer at the special auction. “It will be a pan-India auction in which buyers registered across auction centres in the country would be able to bid for the teas.”
The decision to organise the special auction was taken during the Global Dubai Tea Forum held in Dubai last week. The eighth edition of TGLIA’s final tea tasting session coincided with the Dubai Tea Forum.
The 50 short-listed teas that qualified for the first and second level of screening were evaluated by an international jury comprising renowned tasters and buyers including Mr K. Abdurrahman, (UAE), Mr Andrey Kraynev, (Russia), Mr Kurush Bharucha (UAE), Mr Mike Jones, (UK), Mr Sanjay Sethi (UAE) and Mr M. Yahya Beyad (UK).
United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company Ltd and Woodbriar group of companies won four awards each, while Harrisons Malayalam Ltd and Vigneshwar Estates Tea Factory won three awards each. Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Pvt Ltd, Joonktollee Tea & Industries Ltd and Rousdonmullai Estates — a division of IRM Ltd — won two each and Highland Produce Company Ltd bagged one award.
The Executive Director of the Tea Board of India, Mr R. Ambalavanan, gave away the certificates to the winners.
