Arrivals of turmeric continued to be low at around 4,000 bags (70 kg each) and sales improved with stockists building inventories.
“After the Turmeric Farmers Federation convention many farmers refused to sell their produce below Rs 9,000 a quintal. But every day, about 1,000 bags are sold below Rs 7,000 a quintal.
On Tuesday, about 1,300 bags were sold and the finger variety was sold Rs 7,017 a quintal in the Regulated Marketing Committee. Stockists purchased more than 900 bags, said traders.
In the Regulated Marketing Committee, 40 bags of super fine turmeric arrived and sold for higher prices. Traders are purchasing some quantity for turmeric powder units. They are hoping for fresh orders from North India.
Farmers associations are for not selling the produce below Rs 9,000. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger variety was sold at Rs 3,219-6,614 a quintal; the root variety at Rs 3,199-5,959.
Salem Hybrid Crop
The finger variety fetched Rs 6,374-6,809. The root variety Rs 5,899-6,192. Totally 942 bags arrived for sales and 205 were sold. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,5897,071, the root variety at Rs 5,319-6,406. All 519 bags on offer were sold. At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing society, the finger variety sold at Rs 5,600-6,440, the root variety Rs 5,169-6,100 a quintal. All the 53 bags of turmeric were picked up. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety was sold at Rs 5,789-6,781, root variety Rs 5,773-6,339 a quintal. All the 404 bags were sold.
