Turmeric prices continued to rule lower despite drop in arrivals in the four markets in Erode. “After being closed for five days due to Durga Puja, arrivals were lower at 1,200 bags on Tuesday. Traders quoted a lower price as they have not yet received any demand from North India,”, said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Further, he said many upcountry traders wanted to sell their stocks before placing fresh orders. The turmeric season is nearing an end, so no upcountry trader will place big order. The minimum price for turmeric fell to ₹3,300 a quintal and 767 bags were sold. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹3300-6,034 a quintal, the root variety ₹3,251-5,477.
Salem Hybrid turmeric: The finger variety was sold at ₹5,251-6,316, the root variety ₹4,891-5,677. Of the 326 bags that arrived, 98 were sold.
