Orders from oil crushers here and from Kerala lifted copra by Rs 200 a quintal on Friday.
“Though coconut oil price has not improved, crushers bought quality copra.
Of the 220 tonnes that arrived, Kerala oil crushers purchased 40 per cent,” said Avalpoondurai Regulated Market Committee Superintendent A. Dhandapani. Crushers said the price of coconut oil has not risen as palm oil kernel was cheaper.
However, it may go up if international prices rise, they said. Crushers have enough stocks of copra and coconut oil.
Local buyers, who already have adequate stocks, also bought, officials at the Market Committee said.
First-grade copra was sold at Rs 4,575-4,750 a quintal and second-grade at Rs 3,700-4,515 (up Rs 200).
