Chana futures rebounded on Monday from last week's bearish trend on hopes of a pick-up in demand owing to the festive season.
Enquiries from millers at the lower levels amid a fall in supply from the producing regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat further boosted the uptrend.
On the NCDEX, chana for October delivery was up 1.5 per cent at Rs 4,587 a quintal while that for November and December delivery gained 2.29 per cent and 2.71 per cent to Rs 4,415 and Rs 4,240 respectively.
However, reports of higher pulses output in Australia, the largest chickpea supplier to India, and better prospects for rabi pulses sowing may cap gains.
In Australia, chana production was up 70.5 per cent at 8.27 lakh tonnes. Moreover, above average rains, especially in Rajasthan, one of the major chana growing States, may prove beneficial for sowing.
In the spot market at Indore (Madhya Pradesh), the pulse was quoted at Rs 4,442.8 a quintal.
