Chikamagaluru in Karnataka is trading in imported pepper, arrived via the Bengaluru ICD, like any other primary markets in Kerala, according to trade sources.
Availability of quality indigenous pepper is tight and what is available at present in the consuming/primary/terminal markets is imported material and exchange released pepper which is estimated at around 1,200 tonnes.
There was neither any arrival nor any off take on the terminal market on Thursday, they said.
Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹48,300 (ungarbled) and ₹50,300 (garbled) a quintal.
Indian export prices were at $8,100 a tonne c&f for Europe and $8,350 a tonne c&f for the US.
