A volume of 20.68 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 23 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is just one thousand kg more than last week’s offer. Of this, 14.30 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 6.38 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 19.18 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.50 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 95,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 13.35 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 55,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 5.83 lakh kg, CTC. Among CTC teas from bought-leaf factories last week, Vigneshwar Speciality’s Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, topped the Leaf tea auctions and the entire CTC market when Jay Kay Enterprises bought it for ₹261 a kg. Homedale Estate’s Broken Pekoe, auctioned by Global tea Brokers, followed it at ₹217. In the CTC Dust tea auctions, Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹225.
