There will be no auction of Coonoor Tea Trade Association on Friday as the market will remain closed for Ayudha Pooja. So, the dust auctions held on Fridays will be conducted on Thursday along with the Leaf auction.
In all, a volume of 15.48 lakh kg has been catalogued This is some 76,000 kg more than last week’s offer.
Of this, 10.19 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 5.29 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 13.80 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.68 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only one lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 9.19 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 68,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.61 lakh kg, CTC.
Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the Dust auction and the entire CTC market last week when J P Enterprises bought it for ` 253 a kg. Two other Dust grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ` 243 and ` 215. In the Leaf tea auction, Darmona Estate’s tea, auctioned by J Thomas and Co., topped at ` 208, followed by Homedale Estate’s tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers at ` 205.
