Domestic crude oil and natural gas production fell by 4.34 per cent and 4.48 per cent, respectively, in June 2016, according to data released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Domestic crude oil production stood at 2.966 million tonne in June, as compared to 3.101 million tonne in the same month last year.

The all-India production drop was affected due to lower output from ONGC’s offshore fields as well as a drop in Cairn India’s production from Rajasthan.

ONGC’s production from offshore fields fell 3.96 per cent to 1.326 million tonne while Cairn India’s Rajasthan field had a drop in output of 5.44 per cent to 0.691 million tonne.

Natural gas production stood at 2.598 billion cubic metre during June, as compared to 2.720 billion cubic metre in the same month last year. Natural gas production was also affected by a fall in output from ONGC’s offshore fields.

The output of natural gas from ONGC’s offshore fields fell 4.68 per cent to 1.351 billion cubic metre.

The lower crude oil output also led to 13.1 per cent increase in the crude oil import of the country.

During June, crude oil imports stood at 17.667 million tonne, as compared to 15.619 million tonne in the same month last year.

Further, refinery throughput during the month grew 3.51 per cent during the month to 20.167 million tonne, as compared to 19.483 million tonne in the same month last year.
