Demand for the hybrid turmeric has increased. “On Friday, about 50 bags of Gundelpet hybrid finger turmeric arrived for sale which fetched ₹9,500 a quintal. From next week more hybrid varieties will arrive for sale. We are expecting more upcountry demand,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Of the 5,100 bags arrived, 65 per cent stocks were sold. The root variety was up by ₹500 a quintal due to quality.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,729-10,109 a quintal and the root variety at ₹7,237-9,517. Of the arrival of 1,820 bags, 1,101 were sold.
