Demand for new turmeric has increased with all the arrivals being bought off.
“All the 1,500 bags of new turmeric on sale were sold. But the price decreased marginally. Similarly, buyers were keen in purchasing Salem Turmeric and they procured 30 bags quoting ₹9,600 a quintal for the 45 bags that arrived,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Of the 5,800 bags that arrived, 3,100 bags (including the 1,500 bags of new turmeric) were sold.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric went for ₹5,801-8,500 a quintal; the root variety for ₹5,406-7,699.
New turmeric: The finger variety was sold at ₹6,084-8,688 and the root variety ₹5,789-7,710. Salem turmeric: The finger turmeric went for ₹7,199-9,600 and the root turmeric ₹6,196-7,777. Of the 1,815 bags on sale, 620 were traded.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,099-8,114; the root turmeric ₹6,999-7,573. Of the 864 bags offered, 721 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹7,109-8,190 and the root variety ₹7,019-7,614. Of the 853 bags put up for sale, 791 found takers.
