The arrival and sale of turmeric remain low in all the sale centres.
“Traders have not yet received any upcountry demand, so they are buying limited stocks and are showing interest in buying the Salem Turmeric and also some local quality turmeric. In Erode, the sale was only 50 per cent,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Friday, 4,000 bags arrived but only 1,990 bags were sold. The Salem Turmeric fetched ₹7,500-7,800 a quintal.The price of the finger variety decreased by ₹200 a quintal in all the markets while that of the root variety was down ₹150.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,611-7,419 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,508-6,888. Of the arrival of 1,054 bags, 420 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹6,169-7,579; the root variety ₹6,119-7,009. Of the 1,313 bags on sale, 1,090 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,011-7,368; the root variety ₹5,869-7,068. Of the arrival of 944 bags, 859 found takers.
