The spot pepper prices continued to stay firmer on Thursday as the sellers have withdrawn demanding higher prices.
High range sellers were not ready to sell below Rs 525 a kg while Pulpally and Bathery sellers were quoting Rs 520 a kg. Consequently the prices of imported Vietnam pepper and exchange released pepper also have gone up, market sources told Business Line.
On the terminal market only three tonnes of pepper from the high ranges were traded at Rs520 a kg, they said.
Spot prices shot up further by Rs300 a quintal to close at Rs49,900 (ungarbled) and Rs51,900 (garbled) a quintal. June and July contracts on the IPSTA were steady at Rs52,000 a quintal each.
Indian export prices were at $8,400 a tonne cf for Europe and $8,650 a tonne cf for USA.
