The pepper continued its fall for want of buyers on Tuesday even though there was no selling pressure. Farmers were demanding ₹440 a kg for their produce while the buyers were offering only₹420. Imported stuff is being sold in the consuming markets at ₹400 a kg, market sources told Business Line . On the terminal market neither were there any arrivals nor any off take. Spot prices fell by ₹100 a quintal to close at ₹42,200 (ungarbled) and ₹44,200 (garbled) a quintal.
Indian export prices were at $7,000 a tonne cf for Europe and $7,250 a tonne c&f for the US. Where as, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Brazil were offering at $5,300, $4,300 and $3,500 a tonne respectively.
