The pepper markets on Wednesday stayed steady on matching demand and supply. On the terminal market 20 tonnes arrived. Of this ten tonnes of Pulpally and Bathery (Wayanad) pepper were traded at ₹703 a kg.
Balance ten tonnes from the high ranges were traded at ₹705,₹707, ₹710 and ₹712 a kg depending upon the quality and area of production, market sources told Business Line .
High range pepper was purchased by interstate dealers, they said. Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹69,600 (ungarbled) and ₹72,600 (garbled) a quintal. August, September and October contracts on the IPSTA were steady at ₹72,000, ₹70,000 and ₹69,000 a quintal. Indian export prices were at $ 11,025 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,275 a tonne c&f for US.
