The Rubber Board’s efforts to enhance production and productivity seem to be bearing fruit, going by the 8.7 per cent increase in natural rubber production in May compared to the corresponding period last year.
The production during May touched 50,000 tonnes against 46,000 tonnes in May 2016. In the first two months of the current fiscal, the figure rose to 98,000 tonnes against 85,000 tonnes during the same period last year, an increase of 15.3 per cent. Given the growth momentum, the Board expects production to be 8 lakh tonnes for this financial year. The Board is working to make rubber cultivation remunerative.
