Tracking a weak trend in the Asian region, silver prices fell 0.22 per cent to Rs 55,943 per kg at the futures trade today.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in May fell Rs 121 or 0.22 per cent to Rs 55,943 per kg with a business turnover of 1,392 lots. Similarly, the metal for delivery in July shed Rs 129 or 0.21 per cent to Rs 57,622 per kg in 44 lots.
Analysts said a weak trend in precious metals in the Asian region due to concerns that Europe is struggling to contain its debt crisis weakened the euro against the dollar. This in turn offset the demand for a safe-haven and kept pressure on silver prices at the futures trade here.
Meanwhile, the white metal lost 0.2 per cent to $31.56 an ounce in Singapore in early trade today.
