Tracking a firming global trend, silver futures prices gained Rs 159 to Rs 56,375 per kg today as speculators created fresh positions.
Pick-up in demand at the spot market in view of marriage season also supported the uptrend in silver prices.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in March gained Rs 159 or 0.28 per cent to Rs 56,375 per kg with a business turnover of 3,700 lots. Likewise, May contract moved up by Rs 151 or 0.26 per cent to Rs 57,821 per kg in 311 lots.
Market analysts said besides firming global trend, fresh buying by speculators mainly helped silver futures prices to trade higher.
Meanwhile, the white metal rose 0.4 per cent to $33.61 an ounce in Singapore.
